MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
The idea of starting this college is anchored on experiences in working for the following universities at their initial stages; Busoga, Kumi, Kampala, Lugazi and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science & Technology. Imbued on university teaching experiences, was a partial experience in the general liberation of Education in Uganda in 1990s which led to the establishment of private secondary and primary schools in the country. This was also backed by the yarning nature of the citizenry for accessibility to both basic and tertiary education in Uganda in particular and East African region in general. The Director owes much to his working relationship with re-known proprietors of private institutions both within and outside Uganda.
Tropics was initially to begin as an Early Childhood Education Centre, but given the strong need of other courses, the community and colleagues lured the Director into making arrangements with Kumi University where he had worked before to start a study Centre in Iganga helicoptered by Kumi University main campus. The institution opened its door on 4th January, 2016 to date when it is trying to legalise its operations by seeking a license from UNCHE and consequent officialization of the relationship with Kumi University.
In understanding the situation analysis of the rise and decline of private tertiary institutions in Uganda, the Director adopted and tested with success a working model acronymized as PUSH Model viz.
The model tested on the on-going students of Kumi University at the institution and it has proved successful evidenced by over 300 alumni since the study centres’ inception. The same worked on the labor force leading to minimum attrition rate hence stability. In summary it has led to the formation of a strong academic family in Iganga and the country at large given the servant hood leadership. Both staff and students are marketers to the institution with passion and zeal.
The institution is currently seeking for accreditation of the following programmes at Diploma level by the NCHE; Diplomas in: Public Administration & Management; Business Administration; Early Childhood Development; Records & Information Management and; Social Works & Social Administration. This consequently include certificates in the said programmes. We are also expected to strengthen our relationship with Kumi University as a mother and daughter where programmes for Kumi University will continue being offered at our campus till when we build capacity to be accredited for the same by the UNCHE.
The institution as it stands currently has a strong administrative base as follows; The Directors-headed by a seasoned educationist and a trained and practicing human resources manager; The Council headed by a senior lecturer in Development and religious Studies; Academic Staff headed by an experienced educationist in both private and public institutions. The institution is located in an academically serene environment beckoning learners from all direction. Thus, for any prospective student, on behalf of the institution and my own behalf is welcomed with both hands and will never regret. Our motor says it all “Aim and Pursue”
